The Acadian Home Builders Association is currently in its 57th Annual Parade of Homes, and Amazing Spaces designs are part of this year’s showcase! This is our first year working on a house for the Parade, which is showcasing 40 homes this year.

The Parade of Homes is AHBA’s annual fundraiser, in which local builders choose one or two designers to help them create a showcase-worthy homes of all different sizes and prices throughout Acadiana.

Rodney Bender of Solis Builders contacted us to design his home for this year.

Solis Builders and Amazing Spaces joined forces with Russell Trahan of Trahan Architecture and Planning in August to begin planning for the home, which is approximately 3300 square feet.

I think my favorite part of this process was one of my first meetings that I had with the Rodney. We walked through the blueprint and went through every inch to make sure certain things were installed to make it as efficient as possible.

Our attention to detail and interest in efficiency paid off for this project and played a role in some of the recognizable features of the house. Our involvement included perfecting every square inch – from designing custom master closet to floating shelves flanking a nine foot wide accordion window in the kitchen that opens to the large patio.

We changed a few features in the plans. A desk with a task chair in a hallway was changed to be a standing (counter-height) desk with a power strip for a charging station. This became a mail station and staging area for things that have to go out of the house.

When it comes to style, we leaned toward a minimalistic and transitional space and furniture. Designing for the Parade of Homes presented the challenge of creating spaces that appeal to the mass majority, while still incorporating some flare. Without a client’s particular taste and style as a basis, the team decided to keep the house fairly neutral and added some personality when staging the furniture and artwork. Bryan Nix Ousse, with Bassett Furniture, provided beautiful furniture, art and accessories to stage the home.

This project was certainly a team effort with many hours of hard work. It was a pleasure to work along side Rodney and admire his attention to detail. He was literally on the job site every day. We were so excited about the end result of the project and look forward to next year!
